Robert Jordan is nominated for high school student body president against Mike. Robert is the quarterback on the varsity football team, a 3 time member of the honour role and recipient of the perfect attendance award. When giving his candidate speech he lets everyone know even Carol - Mike's own sister - isn't voting for him. Mike is on the ballad for school president is because Robert had a few friends on the nominating committee put Mike's name in so Robert could look popular, in front of a loser that no one would take seriously. Robert ends up losing the election to Mike.
